Well it's about frigging time. The pedophile director has been evading arrest for the last 31 years for having sex with a 13-year-old. Polanski was arrested in Zurich this weekend when he traveled there to the Zurich Film Festival to receive an award. He can fight extradition to the United States if he so chooses. Switzerland being the neutral country that it is and all.
In 1977, a young girl claimed that he sexually assaulted her at a photo shoot at Jack Nicholson's house. The arrest warrant, issued in 1978 after his failure to arrive in court, has been outstanding all these years. Polanski has avoided returning to the US all the years to avoid arrest, although he has continued to work as a director.
Previous paperwork filed to have Polanski picked up in other countries that also exercise extradition arrangements with the US have fallen through, whether because Polanski found out ahead of time or he just changed his mind about going is unknown.
Polanksi is now 76, married and the father of two. I personally hope that he is extradited and tried in court. If he is innocent then great, but the fact that he chose to stay away from US soil all these years, not showing up in court when he was supposed to certainly lends credence to his guilt. Nobody should be allowed to get away with that sort of thing. Of course, at his age and with his status, the possibility of his actually spending time in jail is small. I mean, he did win an Oscar for 'The Pianist'. At any rate, he at least needs to step up and get it behind him. Be man, suck it up and all that crap. Oh, and let's not forget to have it on Court TV so all of us can watch the travesty of justice of our legal system. Or maybe he can at least be jailed for that piece of crap 'Rosemary's Baby'?
